The crocus is probably the most cherished of all the spring flowering bulbs because their dazzling array of colours can brighten up the most drab of garden areas. These short but sturdy plants are a welcome sight at a time of year when colour in the garden is in short supply.
They are equally at home in partial shade and dry sunny positions and will thrive in almost any soil type. Crocuses will provide visual delight whether the bulbs are planted in borders, in pots or in window boxes and planters. However, they look particularly spectacular when planted beneath trees and shrubs or in large grassed areas.
